OSHA 510: Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry

Course Description

The OSHA 510 course covers Federal OSHA policies, procedures, and standards, as well as construction safety and health principles and is the prerequisite to the OSHA #500: Outreach Trainer for the Construction Industry. Topics include scope and application of the OSHA construction standards. Special emphasis is placed on those areas that are the most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide. Learn to apply the appropriate Federal OSHA standard that applies to hazards in the construction industry.

  • Mission and importance of OSHA in the workplace
  • Organization, origin, codification of OSHA Standards
  • Processes and Rules for OSHA inspections, citations, penalties and policies
  • OSHA recordkeeping requirements for injuries and illnesses and OSHA forms 300, 300A, and 301
  • Programs and requirements in OSHA 29 CFR 1926 that protect construction workers from injuries and illnesses
  • Federal OSHA Standards that protect workers from common physical safety hazards:
    • Subpart C – General Worksite hazards
    • Subpart F – Fire hazards
    • Subpart I – Hand and Power Tool hazards
    • Subpart M – Fall Protection hazards
    • Subpart G – Signs, signals and barricades hazards
    • Subpart J – Welding hazards
  • Federal OSHA Standards that protect workers from electrical safety hazards
    • Subpart K – Electrical hazards
    • Subpart J – Power Transmission and distribution hazards
  • Federal OSHA Standards that protect workers from structural safety hazards
