“Opportunities like these open doors for our students to pursue a better life after their release.”
— Timothy Blasquez
Timothy Blasquez
Timothy Blasquez, a dedicated Outreach Trainer and substance abuse counselor with Five Keys Charter Schools and Programs, delivers transformative OSHA training to people in Alameda County Santa Rita Jail.
Through collaboration with Chabot-Las Positas Community College District and OSHA, Timothy made the OSHA 10-Hour Outreach Training for Construction course available to incarcerated students. In the process, he offers training participants an invaluable opportunity to build skills for their future.
Meeting Rising Demand for OSHA Training
Over the past two years, Timothy and his team successfully trained more than 200 students and delivered more than 30 classes, with more scheduled to meet rising demand. Students, eager for a better path forward, use these educational opportunities to gain practical skills.
As a result of Timothy’s efforts, several former students have found jobs following their release. Individuals benefited from the OSHA training courses, as well as Red Cross First-Aid and CPR/AED certification courses, which Timothy also teaches.
Delivering Hope and Helping the Community
Such programs provide hope. The certifications, essential for union jobs, make formerly incarcerated individuals more competitive in the job market and open doors previously closed. The impact of these programs reaches beyond the classroom walls.
By giving students the skills and certifications they need, Timothy helps them transition back into their communities with dignity and purpose. Many have successfully secured union construction jobs, allowing them to provide for themselves and their families.
Meaningful employment reduces recidivism and offers an opportunity for stability and a future that may have seemed out of reach. With each class, the ripple effect of positive change grows, benefiting both the individual and the community at large.
