Michael retired from the University of California system in 2022 after 31 years of service at LLNL and UC Berkeley respectively. He has extensive experience in various disciplines including hazardous waste management/sampling; energetic materials research and testing; comprehensive EH&S programs and serving as the Senior Assistant Dean for Research Safety and Facility Operations at the College of Chemistry, U.C. Berkeley. He has also served as an instructor for the Environmental Training Center at West Valley/Mission Community College supporting the working professional with relevant health and safety coursework.

He has held a Certified Hazardous Materials Management credential since 2008 and is now a CHMM-Emeritus. He has served as past president of the Northern California Chapter for the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals and lead instructor/course coordinator for the 40hr CHMM test prep course.
