OSHA publishes its Top 10 List of most frequent citations annually to help guide employers and workers in identifying the most common hazards in their workplaces. OSHA considers the most frequently cited standards a starting point for organizations to focus on reducing potential hazards that can be the most harmful to their workers.

Fall Protection – General Requirements remains OSHA’s most frequently cited standard for the eighth year in a row. Falls are among the most common causes of serious work-related injuries and deaths. Employers must set up the workplace to prevent employees from falling off of overhead platforms, elevated workstations or into holes in the floor and walls.

OSHA requires that fall protection be provided at elevations of four feet in general industry workplaces and six feet in the construction industry. OSHA also requires that fall protection be provided when working over dangerous equipment and machinery. Learn more.
