OTC 204 – 40-Hour HAZWOPER

Course Description

The 40-Hour HAZWOPER course is designed to ensure awareness and promote safety among employees who may be exposed to chemical hazards in their workplace. The objective is to ensure that employees operate in the safest possible manner in situations where contact with potentially hazardous materials is likely.

This class is designed to provide students with written and hands-on instruction in hazardous waste operations and emergency response (HAZWOPER) as it relates to chemical and physical exposures in industrial and field settings. This course satisfies the requirement for generalized employee training under OSHA (1910.120) and (1926.65)

Bring your own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to class including:

  • Safety glasses
  • Hard hat
  • Work gloves
  • High-visibility vest, if available
  • Respirators – Please bring your own assigned half/full face respirator with proof of occupational respiratory protection medical clearance* if you plan to participate in full dress exercises/drills. This would also include your self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), if available.
  • Strongly Encouraged: Change of clothing and plenty of drinking water in sealed, single-use containers.

Medical eligibility is to be determined by a physician or other licensed health care professional (referred to as a “PLHCP”). See Appendix C to 29 CFR 1910.134 or T8 CCR Section 5144 OSHA Respirator Medical Evaluation Questionnaire.
